Okay, let me just get this out of the way:
Another Correspondent’s Dinner, another “off-the-shoulder perfection” for Lady M. Enough said.
How do I know why she always looks like such a hot mess at the Correspondents’ Dinner? I guess she’s always had a thing for writers.
For his part of the party, Big Guy hired the best comedy writers in the country and all he got in return was polite laughter. Not exactly a great return on investment; butt then, that can be said about everything else America has “invested in” the past five and a half years too.
Here’s what People reported as his best jokes:
On the opposing side: "These days, House Republicans give John Boehner a harder time than they give me. Which means orange really is the new black." (Someone's been binge-watching!)
On how the shaky Obamacare web signup was just like Frozen: "On the plus side, they did turn the launch of HealthCare.gov into one of the year's biggest movies."
On CNN's incessant coverage of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight: "I am happy to be here even though I am a little jet-lagged from my trip to Malaysia. The lengths we have to go to to get CNN coverage these days ... I think they're still searching for their table."
On FOX News: "Let's face it, FOX, you'll miss me when I'm gone. It will be harder to convince the American people that Hillary [Clinton] was born in Kenya."
On Democrats distancing themselves: "I did notice the other day that Sasha needed a speaker at career day, and she invited Bill Clinton."
On gridlock in congress: "What'd we do to piss off Chris Christie so bad?"
That last one: Not really very presidential. I wonder what Chris Christie did to piss off the President so bad?
Butt actually the line that drew the biggest laugh was this:
“In 2008 my slogan was Yes We Can. In 2013 it was Control-Alt-Delete”
They say all good humor is based in truth. How true.
A good belly laugh is worth a thousand words.
So relax, if you missed the dinner and a movie on Cspan I managed to get a hold of the keynote video presentation. It was the evening’s high point. Here’s a little tease – a glimpse into late night in the Big White kitchen:
It’s definitely must see teevee: excellent acting by Joey B, MO, Nancy P and John Boehner. You might say they’re naturals.
And BTW, somebody posted this on their Twitter feed and it’s gone viral:
I just want to go on record saying this did NOT take place at the MOTUS Twilight Nocturne Lounge.
That’s all I’ve got. Up way too late last night.
Mo gives the 2014 Correspondents’ Dinner won-thumb up, with reservations
