Let the Blacklash Begin. The social media message was sent out and like lemmings drawn to the sea Hollywood responded.
The Black Sea, filled with lemmings
The theme for the evening was “Time’s Up” for the culture of sexual misconduct and abuse. Because every ribbon color under the sun has already been appropriated for one cause or another, solidarity was demonstrated by donning the uniform of the night: black. Normally that would be considered racist, white privilege or worse than Hitler but the elites can always make exceptions for themselves. So there was a red-carpet black out.
The evening’s must-have accessory - an activist on your arm:
Eight actresses, including Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams and Emma Stone, announced Sunday that they would be bringing gender and racial justice activists as their guests, including MeToo founder Tarana Burke and the director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, Ai-jen Poo. – Daily Mail
Nor was the blackout restricted to women; enlightened men, who normally wear black tie anyway, really went all out to demonstrate their solidarity with women against their own bad male behavior.
The movement has already found and anointed their political, spiritual and fiscal leader; she may not be the Black Jesus but Oprah is surely their Black Madonna. She had nearly the entire sea of lemmings in tears after her powerful speech.
“I want all the girls watching here to know that a new day is on the horizon. When that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say 'Me too' again.”
This had many of her acolytes immediately calling it “one of the greatest American speeches” and demanding that Oprah replace Donald Trump as soon as he’s been impeached and/or removed from office for being stupid.
That Weigh Watchers really, really works! Oprah looks as hot and angry as Michelle ever did.
Somehow though, I’m not 100% comfortable conflating the horror of Hollywood starlets “forced” to watch Harvey the Prev pleasure himself in the shower with the story Oprah related of “a woman named Recy Taylor who was raped at gunpoint in 1944 by six white males as she walked home from church in Alabama.” But I guess that’s what Hollywood does: makes everyone else’s story all about them.
The only award I would have handed out last night was to the Woman in Red; she either didn’t get the memo or decided to selfishly use the Blackout to her advantage:
What more could you expect from someone named Blanca Blanco – clearly she is just displaying (nearly all) of her white privilege.
Or maybe she’s just not a lemming.
