National Rosé Day? Now It’s Doomed.

Did you know that today was National Rosé Day?

rose basket

“Everyone's going crazé for rosé…it's one of the trendiest items of the past few years.”

I hate it when something I like gets trendy** in no small part because the first clue of its going vogue is price escalation. I’ve loved rosé since my college days (and nights) of cheap Mateus

and Lancers. When the sweet-as-cotton-candy Pink Zinfandel made the scene in the late 70’s the availability or real rosé, even in wine stores, all but evaporated. But when you could find it even the best French rosé was relatively cheap and the Spanish and Italian varieties were nearly as cheap as soda. No longer, my friends.

Which is why I was so excited to discover the Kirkland Provencal rosé at a reasonable price. On the other hand, when Costco starts sourcing and branding their own product you know the trendoids now own it.

But if you don’t care for rosé wine, grab yourself a pair of rosé colored glasses and have yourself a great National Rosé Day anyway.

#FLOTUSFriday - Let Us Be Grateful

I know it’s #FLOTUSFriday, and we haven’t seen Melania for weeks other than the tiny Instagram image sent from the White House Gold Family event last week.

But I did see this photo the other day that reminded me for some reason of you-know-who.

So I thought I’d take this opportunity to remind everyone just how fortunate we are. Have a nice weekend, even if it is going to rain (again) like it is around here.

Bye, Bye Ms. American Pie

Thanks, advocates of the self esteem movement (aka Let’s Make America Mediocre Again).

Thanks #MeToo, for solidifying the belief that all women great and small are the same: victims.

Thanks Social Justice Warriors, for imposing your standards of “justice” on the world.

ON JUNE 5th Miss America announced that it would ditch the bikinis and become a “competition”, rather than a pageant. “We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance,” announced Gretchen Carlson (pictured), the chairwoman of Miss America’s board of directors, and a former Miss America (1989). “That’s huge.” – The Economist

And that is where the intersectionality of participation trophies and pussy hats gets you:

Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Climate Change Update From Fly-Over

"Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." - Matthew 22:21

It’s frosty here this morning, 46 degrees at 5:00 am to be exact. It was just 38 degrees at the same time 60 miles due north of here. I double checked and yes, it is June 6th.

No wonder the Pope is meeting with oil company executives from around the world to discuss climate change. After all, who would know more about the science of climatology than the man of God who is likewise an economic expert?

I’m just glad I cut my last few straggler peonies yesterday, before they froze to death. They were not the most beautiful of the season, but their unexpected appearance made them the best. And their scent wafting through the house makes me forget entirely about the tragedy of global warming.

If that makes me a bad person so be it.

The Smart Money’s On Trump

Remember  when “political football” was a euphemism and conservatives were always the Charlie Brown to the libs Lucy?  Once again VSGPDT has changed the rules.

Food For Thought

Just when you thought restaurants couldn’t get more pretentious, along comes Vespertine, a place of shadows and whispers.”

A restaurant poised to disrupt the space-time continuum, a self-described “spirit between two worlds,” Vespertine is, according to its website, “from a time that is yet to be.”

Sounds like Obama.

Vespertine “has its own gravity” and even it’s own musical score which, according to the the Chef, Jordan Kahn, “might be the most important part of the whole experience….” When music is the most important part of a restaurant’s “experience” you’ve failed. Again, just like Obama.

Hero_Vespertine_edit_0And it seems racist as well

MOTUS’ Semi-Irregular Summer Sabbatical 2018

time has come walrus

Specifically, time has come for MOTUS’s Semi-irregular Summer Sabbatical. Those of you who’ve been around for a while will recall I’ve taken, or tried to take, them occasionally in the past. I skipped 2016 altogether, as the battle of a lifetime was brewing, and last year I had good intentions but ended up posting more often than not as VSGPDJT was under constant assault – a condition we’ve all grown  accustomed to now.

So this summer I really do need to tend to various matters on the home front because, as you all know, the chores don’t do themselves, half-done projects do not resolve on their own and new maintenance projects multiply like rabbits.

bunnies multiplying

And this year, as PDJT continues to drain the Potomac swamp,  Raj and I will attempt to clear our own of the debris and detritus that has collected of its own volition over the course of 45 years.

notice more supplies than road ahead2

So for the balance of the summer I will provide a jumping off point for your daily forum to discuss the daily news, views and ruse(s). I know you are quite capable of entertaining yourselves and I trust you can also moderate and resolve any misunderstandings or disagreements. I will irregularly do a regular post and will still check in on the comments as time permits.

So as summer rolls languidly along like old man river…

I trust I can count on the MOTI to carry the load - with all the wit, snark and je ne sais quoi we’ve come to expect.

I wish you all a wonderful summer.
