CA extends state of emergency past 2 year mark...
Governor Gavin Newsom today extended for the third time the state of emergency in California related to the threat that Covid poses. Today’s executive order stretches declaration through March 31, 2022, at which time it will have been in effect for more than two years.
Can we stipulate to the fact that after 2 years it’s no longer an emergency? Rather it’s another real danger in what has always been a dangerous world. Only difference is that in the past every individual/family was required to determine how to navigate the dangerous shoals for themselves. That’s no longer the case. You don’t get to do that for yourself, somebody else will do that for you.
Newsom warned that the virus could potentially spike again because “winter is coming” and with it the flu and COVID season; no surprise there. And thus it will be from this year forward. It is the new normal and both individuals and systems need to learn how to cope and overcome not crawl under a rock and hope for the best.
My favorite part of all this autocratic nonsense is the fact that the very people who complain about the evil of the “patriarchy” are ever so keen to embrace rules forced on them by a paternalistic (minus the goodwill) government.
