Liberals Have A Right To Remain Ignorant

Another bull's-eye from the pen of Donald Sensing: Let us mock Texans, their faith and their politics.

You'd think the Left would have learned from Politico's debacle of a few days ago when even fellow-travelers protests' compelled the site to take down this cartoon:

Mocking Texans Politico

Ed Morrisey explains,

In his usual sledgehammer style, he [the cartoonist] includes a Gadsden flag to slam conservatives, Confederate imagery to smear Texans as racists, and then also includes a gratuitous slap at people of faith. It’s a smug, arrogant, and utterly tone-deaf attack on hurricane refugees in the midst of their crisis, exploiting their tragedy to ride his hobby horses all over their pain.

In other words, any excuse will do to smack down people of Christian faith who do not cleave to the liberal line that Big Government is the same as the Hand of God. The Left sees everything in on-off, right-wrong terms. There is no nuance in their world view. A liberal colleague of mine, whom I have know for 20-plus years and who I count a a true friend, posted this similar cartoon on his FB page:

Mocking Texans DM

In his comments on the cartoon, my friend betrayed what you encounter on the Left over and over: "I'm pointing out that the stance that all government help is bad is ridiculous and bad... ." To which I replied, "I know, or know of, exactly zero people on my side of the aisle who say that 'all government help is bad.' That's a memetic straw man on the Left but it has no basis."
I wonder what the cartoonist or its enthralled would say if they knew that the quote in the first section, above, "That government is best which governs least," was penned by Henry David Thoreau (not Thomas Jefferson, as commonly attributed)

Read the whole thing, it reminded me of the “discussion” pointman_12  posted on yesterday’s thread, documenting his “discussion” with a Dan Glass, a moronic jargoneer of the Leftie pursuasion.  I commend pointman’s patience and pray that someday I too will learn to exhibit such intestinal fortitude. Mr. Sensing aptly sums up pointman’s “argument,” as well as nearly every other “discussion” we ever have with Leftists:

And that is the basic template of almost all Leftist politics. There is absolutely nothing that so defines Leftism as anger, of which this is only one example. Converse or correspond with anyone on the Left long enough and it becomes obvious that they are just plan mad, especially at people who do not agree that they just know better than you do. So their commentary is, “smug, predictable, dismissive,” says Morrisey, “with all of the subtlety, wit, and artistry of a sledgehammer.” You either agree with them altogether or you are painted as a racist, homophobic, neo-Nazi, fundamentalist Christian, white supremacist, misogynist child of darkness. Who hates the government except in hurricanes.

And since we’re less than 10 days away from the anniversary of 9/11 it doesn’t seem inappropriate to point out that Christians of Texas - that the Left loves to mock and demean - are not the ones looking to kill you and your progeny just because you don’t share their religious beliefs.

‘Just Send Money’

File this under “They’re so predictable we can write the headlines for them before an event actually occurs.”

While reporters spun George W. Bush as callously staying away from Hurricane Katrina, MSNBC’s Katy Turn on Monday whined about Hurricane Harvey: [Donald Trump is] going to Texas tomorrow and there's real concern that his going there is going to have to divert, at least a little bit, some resources away from the rescue effort and toward him.”Newsbusters

I’ve come to expect so little from Deep State Media that when I heard another talking head say  “Trump is looking at Houston like a builder” I assumed he meant Trump was trying to figure out how to make money from it. Quelle surprise! He actually meant that a builder looks at a disaster as a project and understands what resources – both physical and human labor – are required to manage the rebuilding. If you are looking for people who are more interested in how to make money off the misery of others, look to the Left:

clinton-foundation-haiti

Sarsour recently requested donations for the Harvey Hurricane Relief Fund, which, on its face, sounds innocuous enough. But it turns out that this fund is, in fact, a thinly veiled front for leftist community organizing.Weekly Standard

Theme Test

This is a test of the OLW Theme Fixer.

FLOTUS Friday: The Footwear Edition

Hooray! We made it to FLOTUS Friday! melania-trump-texasflotus melania (2)

And what a FLOTUS week it’s been. First the bait and switch move enroute to Houston:

bait and switch

AKA “Bait the Press.” It’s got to be the oldest trick in the book but Deep State Media falls for it ever time, and heads explode…every time. Like Jim Treacher, I Can Remember When Mocking FLOTUS’ Clothes Was Racist. Now it’s considered a public service.

Anyway, this newfound foot fetish certainly wasn’t on display during the previous administration. (Trigger warning) In the dark ages ( “racist!”) all FLOTUS footwear was duly noted, universally approved and the price ignored. You may review my partial dossier on the former FLOTUS’ footwear collection below for corroboration. I needn’t mention the official inaugural footwear that officially began the collection; they came to be known affectionately around these parts as the “poop green” Cinderella slippers – so I’ll spare you. I next documented the FFC (FLOTUS Footwear Collection) with this pair of weird lovelies way back in 2009:  Half-shoeless and Totally Clueless

Butt* these were followed by many, many more. I present a partial collection of footwear DSM did not  consider inappropriate. First, the pumps:Michelle_Obama_on_the_Iron_Chef_Bluefly_blog_FlyPapershoes

and Jack boots:

And dress Jack boots:

Any of which were preferable to the barefoot:

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished or “Harvey the Hawk Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”

You may have heard about Harvey the Hawk who freaked out in the hurricane, took shelter in a guy’s cab and wouldn’t leave. So the guy decided to take him home till he could find a shelter to rehab him. Everyone thought this a sweet story of a bird bonding with his rescuer -- until politics intruded, as they always do with the left. Apparently the good Samaritan had some, um, non-politically incorrect decorating tastes.

HarveyHawkHarvey the Hawk visits his benefactor’s well stocked bar – no wonder he has to go to rehab

Jazz Shaw has the rest of the story:

But as occasionally happens in the midst of such tragedy, small rays of light occasionally shine through. A dramatic rescue of an at-risk child. A stranger opening up their home to victims of the wrath of nature. And then there was this guy…

A cab driver named William Bruso returned to his vehicle and found a Coopers hawk sitting in the passenger seat. The bird refused to leave and go back out into the storm. Bruso took pity on the animal and decided to see if he could give it shelter. The resulting short video quickly went viral.

And here’s Harvey hanging out at the bar:

That’s just adorable, isn’t it? Man and raptor, waiting out the worst of the storm in a dry, safe room. So what could go wrong? Well, this is the internet, so obviously something had to. If you go back and replay that second video again, check out the few frames around the 45 second mark where the camera swings around to the other side of the room. There on the wall there is… a Confederate flag.

Well, you can guess the rest: the cab driver is a villain, no: worse than Hitler! Sheeze, I remember when the term “knee jerk liberal” was just a meme. Now it’s embedded code. Do liberals have to take the fun out of everything? Rhetorical question.

Still, Harvey and William is a sweet story of man and animal, in this case bird, bonding. How could any sane person not love that? I leave you with another man/bird bonding story that may just be the best ever: a condor returns to visit the man who saved it when it fell from its nest as a baby.

Some things simply need no explanation, no matter how amazing they seem.  Now get out there and work on that bonding thing. A word of caution though, you’ll have better luck with a bird than a liberal – they don’t have as many litmus tests, never bother with virtue signaling and are no where near as judgmental.

Rabbit Hole Wednesday

Rabbit Hole Wednesday again…so soon? It’s beginning to feel like we live here.

For starters we drop our jaws as ex-Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco criticizes Houston for their lack of an adequate evacuation plan:

“You have to have a coordinated effort so that people have confidence in Government getting them out of harm’s way, in a sensible way.”

I guess in her mind the evacuation of New Orleans after Katrina went smoothly.

superdomeI’ve got a plan! Everyone to the Superdome!

Former Governor Kathleen Blanco says she’s curious to why Houston never developed an evacuation plan like Louisiana had in 2005.

“We developed a staged evacuation program, getting the people in the lower lying regions to move out first. Putting a lot of pressure by not saying mandatory.”

katrina bussesOkay, time to deploy the busses!

I hate to but might I remind Blanco that 1,833 died in Katrina, primarily in New Orleans? Maybe that’s why Houston “never developed an evacuation plan like Louisiana.”

In other rabbit hole-worthy news: FBI claims public isn’t interested in Hillary’s emails.

Hillary Clinton’s case isn’t interesting enough to the public to justify releasing the FBI’s files on her, the bureau said this week in rejecting an open-records request by a lawyer seeking to have the former secretary of state punished for perjury.

Now there’s an interesting new standard by which the FBI pursues perpetrators of lawlessness. And I wonder who’s doing the polling to determine the level of public interest.

You’ll have to take it from here; that’s all the time I can spend in the rabbit hole this week.

The Makers Will Prevail

There simply is no way to comprehend the tragedy that has been unpacking and unfolding for days now.

Martin,_John_-_The_Deluge_-_1834The Deluge, John Martin 1834

It’s heartbreaking not only because of the thousands of victims but also because of the thieves and charlatans that will be taking advantage of the situation. And I include the “never let a crisis go to waste” opportunists at the top of that list.  People who don’t believe in God say Texas is being punished by Him for supporting Trump. Global warming will be blamed. President Trump will be blamed.

heinlein

It would appear that we are indeed living in Heinlein’s crazy years. I trust the makers will prevail.

There Must Be Some Kind Of Way Outta Here

bob dylanBob Dylan - Sweetheart Like You

For those of you who missed this yesterday let me redirect you to Gerard’s recently reformatted and still excellent website, American Digest. One of yesterday’s posts, “Two riders were approaching:” All Along the Watchtower and Isaiah, contains a TED video titled Why Bob Dylan Won the Nobel Prize  - definitely worth your time to view.

The last time we talked about Dylan around here was when he received the Medal of Freedom – from President Obama. dylan boI doubt he ever would have received that honor if the tenders knew who Dylan really was. But they didn’t wish to; the left has always assumed Dylan was one of their own because of his 60’s protest songs. They never bothered to track the rest of his life’s journey as it led to a place they could not comfortably inhabit. The real Bob Dylan, né Robert Zimmerman 76 years ago, was born and raised Jewish, converted to Christianity as a young man and has remained a poet philosopher continuously reflecting his deeply held spiritual beliefs for all to see. Of course, one needs eyes to see and ears to hear.

Young Bob Dylan (2)

Bob Dylan: not just another pretty face. You have to work for your supper, but it will be sustaining. And that is why Dylan won the Nobel prize in literature.

We really don’t have enough poets anymore.

There must be some kind of way outta here
Said the joker to the thief
There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief

Business men, they drink my wine
Plowman dig my earth
None were level on the mind
Nobody up at his word
Hey, hey

No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin' falsely now
The hour's getting late, hey

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too
Outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl

May God bless and keep the people of Texas and Louisiana as they battle biblical floods.
