Invasions and Insurrections: The Lies Continue Unabated

In Washington this weekend the FBI Threw an Insurrection and Nobody Came, other then themselves.

The memes will likely continue for at least another week, as everyone likes to make fun of the FBI.

That IS a lot of White Boyz, but then who else would you sent to a White Supremacist insurrection? 

The “boyz” might have been put to better use in Texas where there is a real insurrection going on.

Then again, I doubt any of them know how to ride a horse,

which looks to be the only way Texas is currently allowed to deal with their vermin invasion.

And speaking of vermin, even the bees have had it with these migrating hoards: Border Patrol agents had to  rescue a group of migrants from a swarm of bees on Wednesday, shortly after crossing the Rio Grande.

Meanwhile, some people are still brave enough to call a spade a spade:

Pretty much looks like a cesspool to me.

It’s not like Mr. Trump didn’t try to warn us back in 2015, when he rode down that escalator. Of course the lies began at that very moment and have not abated since.

Pasta Siciliana Mezzogiorno

‘Tis the harvest season: eggplant, peppers, tomatoes – all at their peak. Here’s a dinner idea using some of them. It’s a concept more than a recipe and can be modified to taste and ingredients on hand. It’s a bit of a mashup of two of our favorite pasta dishes - garlic sausage linguine and penne with eggplant - from The Earle in Ann Arbor. It’s been our go-to favorite since 1980 and until last year was still headed by the original chef and sommelier. But hey, 40 year years on and I guess you have to expect some changes, yes?

We actually made this last Sunday but with another perfect deck dining day on the radar it would be perfect for today as well. For some reason I can no longer recall why we call this pasta dish ‘Siciliana Mezzogiorno’ but is sounds romantic. It requires a lot of ingredients and a fair amount of prep work but if you do all that ahead of time execution is quite swift. 

Let’s start with the mice-on-plates (Mise en place), for the sauce, in no particular order:

Hot Hungarian pepper slices, 1 small tomato, chopped, 1 small roasted red pepper (jarred is fine) cut in thin strips, 1/2 lb. garlic/Italian sausage – I cooked mine ahead of time, but you don’t have to, just drain most of the fat after browning, 1 small cubed eggplant, peeled or not. Two cloves of garlic or so, minced, pitted Kalamata olives, halved or quartered, sweet red pepper slices, sliced, fresh basil leaves. Raj likes to throw some diced capicola in too if we have them, but we didn’t.

You will also need 1/2 lb. (for two diners) of pasta of your choice, we used spaghetti. Romano cheese and  bread crumbs, I use panko, toasted with a bit of olive oil in small frying pan.

Once you’ve done the prep work you can go play for awhile. When hunger strikes put a large pot of salted water on to boil for cooking the pasta and get out a large skillet.

If you haven’t precooked your sausage, do it now, and drain the grease (or not). Add a bit of olive oil and the garlic and stir around with the sausage for about a minute then add a bit more olive oil, the eggplant and sauté for a minute or two longer, adding additional olive oil if needed. Add the tomatoes, peppers, a bit of wine or pasta water to keep it moist and cook for a couple more minutes, stir in the olives. Salt, pepper and additional olive oil to taste.

Drain the pasta well, reserving a bit of water, and add it to the sauce in your skillet. Stir to coat the pasta, adding a bit of water if needed, and finish up with the basil leaves, torn roughly or sliced.

 

Serve, topping with grated Pecorino Romano cheese, crumbs (and maybe another little drizzle of olive oil because why not?) and you have yourself a dish fit for royalty.

  

And because there aren’t enough carbs here, why not serve it with a nice panzanella salad while homegrown tomatoes and cukes are still available? Toss in a few cubes of fresh mozzarella to up the protein content and all’s good.  

You can modify to taste: zucchini instead of or along with eggplant, sweet peppers subbed for hot (or sautéed and served on the side if not everyone is a chili-head). It’s a concept, not a recipe. But if it’s nice today in your part of the world just get outside and enjoy it, even if you just pick up a pizza.

As with all good things, it is fleeting.

ETA: Along with a salad this actually made enough for dinner with enough leftovers for another dinner. If however, you are still in the hunger years, it makes enough as they say to serve 2 generously. Oh, and it’s really much better than it looks.

Expect long delays as traffic backs up at the International Bridge due to deconstruction on the American side.

There should be a deluge of Haitians with widely scattered Mexicans and a few gusts of terrorists throughout the weekend. The extended outlook calls for more of the same with inevitable flooding and no relief in sight. Despite this fact the Federal Government is not expected to declare the area a disaster zone.

When contacted, a spokesmouth for the Administration commented that the visitors were behaving better than the insurrectionists of 1/6, noting that it appeared they were all lining up in an orderly fashion to present themselves to border guards as required prior to entering the already deluged country.

I would like to be one of those late-summer souls, pushing on optimistically through concrete, unencumbered by August’s knowledge of declination,

oblivious of the fractures, decay

and underlying rot. I would love to push through as the last bloom of the season, luxuriating in the sand’s warmth accumulated over the long summer.

and trust that they will germinate in a better clime. Somewhere, sometime. Because life goes on.

Stupidity and Self-Immolation: That Should Do The Trick

Good grief California, as an entity you really are as stupid as we make you out to be. If your track record weren’t so bad I’d entertain the concept that the only way your citizens decided to retain Governor Swell-head was due to voter fraud and Dominion machines.

But given that you’ve consistently voted yourselves into fiscal, energy, environmental and moral collapse it’s fairly easy to believe that you did so, once again, on your own.

So thanks for proving that hate is still alive – despite your yard signs to the contrary – and living in your state.

And that “Trump-hate” trumps everything for some people.

My deepest condolences to those of you living there who are still sane. At this point I don’t know what else to say. They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

It seems your state has surpassed insanity and settled for stupidity and self-immolation.

What a classy, and ironic, act for the working class’s champion. She’s standing up for the little guy because as we all know America is run by the rich, white supremacist class. And the working stiffs, especially the brown or black ones, don’t stand a chance of ever reaching the Halls of Power. Oh wait…

The Bartender-to-Congresswomen-in-10-month wonder, along with 2 other Squad members, also raised in working class families. But yeah, AMERICA SUCKS!

And in other Cinderella stories: Joe Biden – working class boy from Scranton who was finally hoisted into the most powerful position in the world - bumbled his way through a campaign rally for Pretty-Boy-Newsom yesterday before staff had to cut his mic again so he could be put down for a nap.

I for one would be in favor of a classless America if it meant the demise of the effete and the elite class. But alas, the middle class is the only one that will be smited in the great Democratic Socialist class war.

Never Place Your Trust In That Which Has Deceived Us Even Once

Many schools were back in session last month. Most of the remainder started the day after Labor Day. But the one with a really good teachers’ union - New York City - didn’t start until today.

A lot of schools around the country are still closed to on-site learning due to cooties. Although there are those wags who claim that ALL schools are closed to on-site learning, and have been for years.

So if you wish your children to learn actual facts about history, be exposed to real literature, learn how to do mathematical calculations and {{shudder}} think for themselves you will pretty much have to teach them yourself.

The public education system has proved itself to be even more dangerous that the rest of the government bureaucracies that Boomers boomed against back in their youth. I guess that proves the hypothesis that as a species we don’t do learning particularly well.  

And that, my little one, is how you do learning.
