Bring The Bricks.

 brick loader

I’d like to file another anecdotal pre-election enthusiasm report from fly-over America. Yesterday Raj and I took a mini color tour on the backroads of the mitten state. To be fair I should point out that we steered clear of urban areas and stuck to back roads through little burgs and farmland – natural Trumper habitat. Nevertheless, during a day long trip that included no backtracking I saw a grand total of 3 Hillary signs and too-many-to-count Trump signs – literally dozens. Let’s hope that this severe enthusiasm gap translates to votes.

You may recall that a few days back, following a righteous rant, Betty Ann the Deplorable reminded us that PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE ARE DANGEROUS. And in BA style added: I cannot wait to throw my brick on November 8th.

So I’d just like to encourage everyone to get your bricks lined up (metaphorically speaking of course) for Red Brick Tuesday.

We’ve Got The Death Star Plans. What Do You Want To Do With Them?

The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner is normally a genteel gathering of the New York elite; political adversaries roast each other in good humor to raise money for a Catholic children’s charity. This year however they got Trumped. There was a time when I would have been appalled by the boorish behavior of both presidential candidates on display last night. Butt that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

Obama_-_My_Work_Here_Is_DoneIn other words, BO: Before Obama.

Being a real glutton for punishment I followed the Wednesday night Rumble in the Jungle – can I say that now that neither candidate is half-black? - with the Thursday night white glove ruckus at the Waldorf Astoria. At the beginning of the evening began everyone had their gloves on, as Maria Bartiromo amply demonstrates:

maria's glovesNo wonder Maria is known as the Money Honey

The crowd initially registered their approval by cheering and clapping:

maria's gloves

However the gloves quickly came off as the jokes spiraled into the mud pit, forcing patrons to take to the Twitterverse:

maria2

Both candidates were quite brutal which should surprise no one as we transform from the Age of Obama to the Age of Trump. Both Donald and Hillary started out with some well crafted jokes before veering off course. Donald with this: “Hillary is so corrupt, she got kicked off the Watergate Commission.” It’s a funny line when not delivered like a stump speech assertion.

And while Jimmy Fallon could have made this line sound funny: People look at thee Statue of Liberty and they see a proud symbol of our history as a nation of immigrants, a beacon of hope for people around the world. Donald looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a “four,” Hillary read it like an allegation from a Gloria Allred lawsuit.

So what have we learned here? That neither candidate has very good comedic timing?  Not news. That there’s a thin line between humor and disrespect? Not news either. That every good joke contains an element of truth? Captain Obvious. No my friends all we learned is how utterly, completely, definitively successful Obama has been in fundamentally transforming America.

During the battle, Rebel spies managed

De-bait Night

It’s late and I know many of you get up early. So this isn’t a post-debait wrap up (srdem65 promised to do that for us, if her head didn’t explode while watching) just an early morning open thread with a few random observations:

  • Wrap up from the Fox team: All Britt Hume and Juan Williams wanted to talk about was Trump’s reluctance to give carte blanche to the election results. And why should he when we have Project Veritas evidence that there is planned voter fraud occurring as we speak?

voting_dog1Of course I’ve got my papers.

Besides, if questioning the result of an election is so unAmerican why is that old love poodle, Al Gore, still considered  an American hero?

gore-having a goricalThe love poodle, having a Gorical

  • All Megyn Kelly wanted to talk about was “the Trump accusers” because…I don’t know why. Because Trump is mean to girls? Because he said “pussy”? Because she actually enjoys mud wrestling?  My prediction for Megyn’s next stop: Access Hollywood.

accesshollywood33I think she’d fit right in. And Billy Bush is gone.

  • I thought all the post-debait discussion would evolve around Trump’s statement that he’d appoint all pro-choice Supreme Court Justices and he expected that the Court would then reverse Roe v. Wade and toss abortion back to the individual states to decide. In other words abortion may remain legal (in some states) butt it is not a constitutional “right.” As of 12:22 am I’ve not heard one person say this is a BFD (h/t Joey Biden). Just a year ago that would be the only thing the MSM would be talking about.

  • Donald Trump called Mexican drug lords “hombre.” Not as bad as “pussy” butt still, it’s got to be some sort of inappropriate appropriation; or at least a trigger. Which means we’re going to need a new safe space.

hombre safe space

  • I liked Hillary’s response to Chris’ question about her Wikileaked  quote from her $225,000 speech to a Brazilian bank: “My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders,” She said she was talking about energy. At least she didn’t blame Lincoln this time.

scram bo and hill signed abe lincolnApologies to Cripes Suzette for modifying her original concept

  • Second Amendment: Hillary was for it before she was against it. And now she’s for it again; except when she’s against it. Any other questions?

second-amendment-patch2 birds, 1 stone

I don’t know about you butt I’ve definitely decided who I’m voting for: it’s the badass Hombre. He’s rough butt he’s honorable.

hombre

If you squint hard enough, Donald Trump looks just like Paul Newman.

This is MOTUS, the most deplorable mirror in the America, and I approve this message.

I Interrupt Your Presidential Debate Prep to Bring You This Special Report

I must interrupt the presidential election process to bring you this important reflection on the Obama’s last, historic State Dinner; this one for the Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini. So naturally we wore Italian (Versace)

Obama_US_Italy-6a386For the final state dinner hosted by President Obama, this one in honor of Italy’s prime minister, first lady Michelle Obama wore a custom rose-gold chain-mail gown from Atelier Versace. It was a slinky gown with an asymmetrical neckline that slithered like liquid metal down her torso and around her hips. It was pure Hollywood glamour. – WaPo

And we cooked Italian too – orchestrated by famed chef Mario Batali.

Screen Capture #077Good thing for Little Bo and Sunny it wasn’t the Chinese State Dinner

Mario is a long time friend of the Obamas. Here he is with Lady M’s first White House photo-shoot for Food TV. Note it was at the height of our mini-me sweater days. Crocs were compliments of yours truly:

mo mario crocks watermark copy

Since it’s the Obamas’ last State Dinner, the affair was somewhat bittersweet. Butt then, everything about this last quarter of the last year of the historical, magical presidency is a bit nostalgic. Which explains the “Love Letters to Michelle Obama” published by the New York Times the other day.

She had rhythm, a flow and swerve, hands slicing air, body weight moving from foot to foot, a beautiful rhythm. In anything else but a black American body, it would have been contrived…But the cut of the dress scorned any “future first lady” stuffiness; it hung easy on her, as effortless as her animation. - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Wow! I couldn’t put it better myself!

mo style orange backwards shirt[23]

She made her husband both more human and effective as a president by being his interpreter and defender…To be less serious, she has always been a woman who knows the difference between fashion (what outside forces tell you to wear) and style (the way you express a unique self).  – Gloria Steinem

mrso_londonOh yeah baby! Express yourself, gurl!

As their history-making time in the White House comes to an end, it’s worth pondering the lessons of the Age of Obama. My own view is that both the president and the first lady have conducted themselves splendidly in the White House, managing the most difficult of tasks with apparent ease: projecting a grace that masked the ambition and the drive that took them, at early ages, to the pinnacle of American life. – Jon Meacham

And I would just like to add, what a pinnacle it is! I don’t even know where to start. So let’s just start at the end:

mo buttWarning: rear bumper backup lights engaged!

And leave it there for now.

You may now return to your presidential debate preparations.

I’m With Her!

journOlists

I know this will come as a surprise: evidence emerges that journalists tend to put their money where there mouthpieces are:

reporters trump clinton

Irony is not dead after all, as displayed by infamous Washington Post correspondent Chris Cillizza:

take sides

If IowaHawk hadn’t beaten me to it this would have been my first thought:

wapo reporters

I do love Chris’ heartfelt addition of the “period” flourish to his point – because when you add that it makes it seem so real. Like “If you like your health care plan you can keep your healthcare plan. Period.”

Butt never mind all that, I’ve got some real news about a real journOlist: Shep Smith just came out of the closet!!

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith revealed he's gay in an interview with the Huffington Post in which he also defends former Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes's treatment of him at the network.

Apparently poor Shep was the last to know. Hmmm…I wonder who he’s putting his money on?

Collusion, Corruption; the (new) American Way

We all knew there was collusion between Hillary’s campaign and the media. Wikileaks confirmed it and now Sharyl Atkinson has documented it.

And how could you be sentient and not think there was collusion between Hillary’s campaign and the DOJ?

And the Clinton corruption? Where do you even start? Where does it end?

I’ve been listening to Rush Limbaugh for years and he’s always said he’ll tell us when it’s time to panic; just last week he said it isn’t time yet. Butt what if he’s wrong? What if he’s wrong and Sheriff David Clarke is right?

sheriff clark pitchforks

I’ll give Rush through the election to see if he’s still got his finger on the pulse of the conservative nation. In the meantime I’m going to keep tabs on Sheriff Clarke’s Twitter account (at least until they take it down). And when I’m done cleaning up the yard today, instead of storing my garden pitchfork away for the winter, I think I’ll get it sharpened. And perhaps I should get a gallon or two of tiki lamp oil.

Then I’ll see about getting the old band back together.

Because, You Know…

In 2013 Hillary Clinton was paid $675,000 for three speeches she gave to Goldman Sachs.

I’ve scanned through then as much as I could without poking my eyes out. Never mind the “pulbic/private” positions – which I know are disturbing in themselves butt not exactly news – what really bothered me was her actual speech. Can that woman not string more than 2 sentences together without inserting “you know” a dozen times?

now-you-know

While technically not a non-fluency, “you know” is still the most annoying verbal tic in the modern lexicon of annoying speech patterns. And seriously, at $225,000  – assuming they’re 30 minute speeches at around 4000 words, that’s about $56.25 per word. Now I know we can’t expect anyone to be as articulate as our current interlocutor-in-chief, butt even in Manhattan, the lawyer-centric land of billable hours, all those “you knows” sound like bill padding to me.

And while that’s probably not illegal it sure seems unethical; not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Not-That-Theres-Anything-Wrong-With-That-Reaction-Gif-On-Seinfeld

And I’m not sure Hillary’s good friend, Lady M, would approve, as she’s all about equity and equality in the labor market. And any way you cut it $50/word is an unconscionable multiple of what the little people get paid.

 price per wordWords? Just words?

I’m pretty sure a 1:2500 ratio would not meet Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren’s – or even Barry’s – approval in the “fair playing field” debate.

Edit: even the most hateful Big Business wage disparities between top and bottom employees make Hillary’s pay-per-word differential look obscene.

ps_ceo_infographic01

Anyway, here are my takeaways from the Goldman years:

Hillary’s all in favor of financial institution self-regulation. Unless she’s talking to Bernie’s supporters in which case she wants government to come down on too-big-to-fail banks like a ton of bricks. All part of that public/private position thingy she’s got workin’ for her. Oh, and did I mention she thinks charitable foundations should be self-regulating as well?

The first Wikileaks dump required Hillary to buy a new “rock tour jacket” and go on what she called  “the Clinton Apology Tour” to smooth the feathers of important foreign dignataries who were insulted by comments made by various members of Hillary’s State Department employees. I wonder if the current Wikileaks’ dump will inspire her to buy a new jacket.

It seemed like Hillary was giving the titans of Wall Street security and military briefings. Um, do you really think that’s a good idea? Trump might conflate that into an example of “bad judgment.”

Hillary thinks Donald Trump would make a swell president: “You know, I would like to see more successful business people run for eoffice. I really would like to see that because I do think, you know, you don’t have to have $30 billion, but you have a certain level of freedom. And there’s that memorable phrase from a former member of the Senate: ‘You can be maybe rented but never bought.’ And I think it’s important to have people with those experiences.” I’m not sure she meant to imply that people like her can be bought. That’s irrelevant; we all know she can.

There were a lot of interesting tidbits that also won’t be picked up by most of the MSM because they’ve got allegations of sexual abuse to pursue. And because, well, #MediaRiggingElection.

How else do you explain certain election results, you know?

I Do Not Recall; and Neither Do You, Right?

Hillary Clinton used variations of 'I don't recall' 21 times when asked 25 questions under oath about how she deleted 33,000 State Department emails.

Sworn written testimony obtained by Judicial Watch show the Democratic presidential candidate dodged virtually all of the questions about the correspondences she removed from her private server while she was Secretary of State. - DM

Since he’s already lost his media bona fides, let’s have Matt Lauer pursue this series of brain freezes with Hillary Rodham, the smartest woman in the world:

“I do not recall” and Vinny wants you to have his watch to forget as well.

Now, you may not recall what you had for lunch yesterday, you may not recall where you left your phone, and on a really bad day you may not even recall your own phone number. Butt seriously, don’t you think you might recall whether you “altered, destroyed, disclosed or used” any of your State Department emails? Or instructed anyone else to “alter, destroy, disclose or use” said email? Especially when you're famous for your steel trap brain?

Maybe Hillary just isn’t as qualified to be president as everyone thinks.
